HENRY BUCKLE
I am a Margate/London-based sound designer, artist and composer investigating the intersection of human entitlement, geologic time and the restorative potential of sound.
My work seeks to prove that a dedicated sonic practice – informed by both the complexity of nature and the friction of the urban experience – can serve as a vital antidote to what I call ‘collective inattentiveness’, a shift in the public psyche towards a more withdrawn individualism. By moving beyond binary cultural polarisations and celebrating the unity of opposites, I aim to create listening experiences that are both personally meaningful and socially transformative.
I am currently composing an album based on a collection of essays titled Collective Inattentive, with each track functioning as a ‘sonic essay’ in its own right. Simultaneously, I am investigating the intersection of chance-based correspondence and sonic response; this involves illustrating responses to improv compositions on postcards and delivering them to random houses across the UK, inviting recipients to respond in kind. My aim is to complete the album by April, with the postcard project culminating in a summer exhibition and an accompanying book.
